All the Colors

July 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

These are all the colors I have available (or can have available in a few weeks). Pink, Heather Blue, Soft Green, Soft Yellow, Lavender, White, Pink Parade… all are soft, warm, easy to take care of, and durable.

The yarn is 100% acrylic, but when I first touched it I was impressed with how soft it is, even compared to other baby yarn. Then the test: knitting up a sample and holding it against my skin. Sometimes very soft yarn can actually irritate ~ not this yarn. It is soft and comfortable, even against the most sensitive skin.

Being 100% acrylic also makes caring for it a breeze. I machine wash and dry these blankets, with no stretching or shrinking. They come out beautifully! And talk about durable… a friend wrote to me a few weeks ago, telling me that his 15-year old daughter (for whom I had made the very first baby blanket ever, even before creating this pattern) STILL uses the blanket I made for her, “all the time.” Her baby blanket became a security blanket, then a favored comfort from home. Fifteen years and still going strong! Another friend recently wrote on my wall at Facebook that her daughter, who just turned six, also still loves and uses her blankie, and sometimes, when she’s feeling generous, she’ll even let her 2-year-old sister borrow it. (But only sometimes.)

Finally, my blankets are solid pieces, not full of holes like lace or crocheted patterns are. That means they are warm, with no drafty places. Your baby will be snuggly warm ~ or you, snuggled on the couch on a chilly evening, can also enjoy these as cozy lap blankets!

Please feel free to browse all the colors below, then click on the tabs above for historical details about each color, and how to buy.

Blue Heather for Isamu

July 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The first blanket of this design that I made was in heather blue, for Isamu. I was amazed at how well it turned out, especially since the design was completely out of my imagination. I love the marbled effect of the heather.

Pink for Savannah

The second blanket I made was for Savannah. Pink, this time. This is a more solid color, but it’s still so pretty (I may be biased, but… friends like them!)

Next came Claire, and I decided to be a bit more free-spirited with this one. I tried the white/pink/lavender mix called “Pink Parade.” Kind of funky, but her mom just LOVED it!

Molly was next. Her parents didn’t know she was going to be a girl, so I decided to make them a soft green blanket. I understand Molly loved it ~ as did Mom & Dad. And everyone at the church baby shower…. it got passed around and oohed and ahhed over many times!

White for David

The next precious little baby among my friends was David. I wanted to make him a blanket worthy of his baby dedication at church. Pure and simple, just like him. I love the way it turned out.

Lavender for Jade

My friends are prolific! The next one to come along was Jade. You’d think she’d get a green blanket, but I liked the idea of giving her a complimentary color. I’d always liked green and purple together…. the lavender was perfect for her!

After the babies

July 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After making all these colors for my friends’ babies, I began knitting up blankets to donate to charities. The most recent was a March of Dimes fundraising event where I work, and some 35 people bought tickets for my lavender blanket. The woman who bought it has no babies, nor grandbabies. She bought it for herself, as a lap blanket!

I completely understand ~ they are so lightweight and yet snuggly warm. I love knitting in the winter, when I get to snuggle as I work. In the summer, sometimes the air conditioner can be just a bit on the cold side if I’m sitting under the vent, and these blankets are perfect for taking the edge off.

Future plans? Blankets for twin, full, queen, and ~ gasp ~ even kind sized beds!
